Marilyn Monroe, Montrealers and Melodies of Boney M Launch Brighton Babylon Book with Bags of Style.
Peter Jarrette, whose darkly humorous and vivacious book Brighton Babylon is released today in paperback by Dynasty Press, presented his fans with a glittering seaside entertainment at Hove's Naked Eye Gallery on Sunday 17th February 2013. Brighton Babylon is also released by Dynasty Press as an enhanced e-book and readers can enjoy using award-winning WeJITS to click through and join online debates. http://www.dynastypress.co.uk/books-brighton-babylon.html
Laura Nixon as Marilyn Monroe
"No matter where you live, you'll see hilarious glimpses of yourselves and your friends in this fab roller-coaster. Reads like a TV mini-series!" Marc Abraham, author and TV vet.
Brighton, Sussex (PRWEB UK) 20 February 2013
Peter Jarrette's guests were invited to fasten their seat belts for take off and feel the love for his new book Brighton Babylon by flight attendants dressed in shocking pink at The Naked Eye Gallery on Sunday afternoon.
End of the pier photographer Melissa Buchanan posed adult children in the Bags of Fish for Cats 50p cut out board. Gallery owner David Donno served cake with Brighton-green icing, confected by a fan who thought the book juicy, fit for cats to eat.
Montreal law professor Naomi Sidaway-Sollinger jetted in from Kazakhstan, her lacquered Brighton-green fingernails studded with Swarovski crystals. She came to collect copies for law students at KazGU. They begged her to carry back as many copies as possible so they can 'begin to understand western culture more.’
Artists and wannabes mingled loudly and laughed at the launch speech. It was pointed out that the success of this 'new adult' book could take the author back to the New York City he had enjoyed when he was both young and pretty.
It has been 75 years since the publication of Graham Greene's Brighton Rock and multicultural migrations have transformed Brighton into the 'gender neutral' international hub it is today. Jarrette's book has twinned gaudy Brighton with Babylon. Brighton beach blankets now equal the weirdest ambivalence that a San Francisco has to offer.
Laura Nixon captured the heart of every Brighton daddy when she reincarnated a platinum blond Marilyn Monroe. Melodies of Boney M performed, a tribute band featuring Andrea Barker, Chantal Brown and Debra Lewis-Brown who normally reserve themselves for fans in Russia. Their medley heard for the first time in the UK to rapturous applause. Brighton Babylon author and illustrator Peter Jarrette performed with them. He wore his trademark black hat in various styles. The height of his hat increased as the event progressed. He wore a black gauze funeral veil to denote the haunted histories of his Brighton Babylon characters, their chaos and intrigue.
A Latest TV camera crew under the eagle eyes of Director Bill Smith shot footage of the author, the cat loving guests and their lapdogs. A senior Jamaican private investigator specialising in hotel surveillance in 'All Caribbean Islands' kept his private eye out for local Yardies. But did he identify the Jamaican born royal author Lady Colin Campbell, so very english in her tweeds among the throng?
Film makers, TV script writers and their agents schmoozed each other on their endless quest to sign the next big thing - and somehow felt that this might just actually be it!
Brighton Babylon is a book in four parts, 448 pages packed with over ninety vignettes which richly evoke the city and vividly portray its characters. The volume is the first of Jarrette's stories about life in the city he has adopted as his own.
In her preview Julie Burchill said the book was 'A Sex and The City' (for Brighton) in a fresh and funky century.' For Peter James 'You can taste and smell the city on every page.' More reviews are expected and reader feedback lauds Brighton Babylon as 'wonderfully enjoyable on the commuter train, on the commuter plane, at home or on the beach.'
Brighton Babylon is available now from Dynasty http://www.dynastypress.co.uk/books-brighton-babylon.html at all good book shops, online at Amazon, Waterstones, WH Smith, for download on Kindle and Apple’s iBookstore.

TVI AND MORE UK PETER JARRETTE NEWS BRIGHTON BABYLON
News-BrightonPrevious
BRIGHTON BOOK LAUNCH – ‘BRIGHTON BABYLON’ by PETER JARRETTE
By Andrew Collins
Brighton’s very own socialite, author, presenter and luminary celebrates the launch of his first book, Brighton Bablylon this Sunday.
Published by Dynasty Press, London and the second book in the world (and first in the UK) to use Democrasoft’s ‘WeJIT ‘ web interactive format, its already getting rave reviews and sizzling press. WeJIT, which releases books in interactive digital format, allows readers to communicate directly with the author via online discussion.
Brighton Babylon, Jarrette’s debut book publication, is about his varied encounters and experiences living in Brighton, penned with a razor-sharp wit and relentless attitude; a no-holds barred expose and incisive portrayal of the myriad colourful characters and he’s dallied, danced, dined and diced with over the years. It rips apart Brighton’s underbelly and gloriously wades through the muck; teases stories from the odd and bizarre; the funny and sad, the mad and the bad – all bought to life on the page with Jarrette’s customary panache and deliciously spicy way with words.
It’s been described as “A Sex and The City for a fresh and funky century” by Julie Burchill and a “glorious evocation … so rich and vivid, you can taste and smell the city on every page” by Peter James.
The author has not always lived in Brighton (he finally settled here in 1999) – he’s quite the world traveller, having lived in New York, Montreal, Athens, San Francisco, Stockholm and Trinidad & Tobago, where he was born.
I interviewed him about his exciting forthcoming book which is currently the talk of the town.
Peter is not a stranger to publicity and the media – he’s a regular columnist for Absolute Brighton magazine, a presenter forGossip TV, writes for Carribean Belle magazine and is co-author of four children’s books published by Simon & Schuster. The first time he was broadcast though was at the tender age of five, and it was perhaps here he got the taste for the media.
‘I was broadcast live across Canada at five years old when I saw my first snowflake. Apparently, my father who was well known in Radio and Sports Media had his daytime DJ call me and ask me a few questions. I answered and when I went back to school after lunch everyone was wild about hearing me on the radio. I had no idea I was talking to millions of Canadians!
‘I’ve enjoyed success in different varieties over my life and from a very young age, 15, when I became an overnight teen sensation with my first art show in St. Louis where I spent part of my high school years and was plastered over all the TV screens and newspapers. That has been the case in every country I live in to some extent or another. ‘
It was this early taste for success when he acquired his first useful knowledge for self promotion: ” I like the sound of my own voice and words get you places as fast as a nice looking face … I learned that very young.”
Brighton Babylon is in fact the third book he has written: ‘BB is my third book really. My first book is Young and Pretty New York City to be published later. My second is Trinidad Rock Hard and Fruity, coming later too. BB is the third but as I’m based here the publishers, Dynasty Press Ltd. in London decided to release this one first.
‘I’ve always done things ass-backwards at best so I’m cool with this process. I wrote this one as I have all my books based on the true stories and events in my life and the lives of those around my physical and emotional landscape.’
The writing process did not come easily – though you would never know it reading his prose – as he suffered from slight dyslexia, and has worked hard to overcome it. The effort has clearly paid off – Brighton Babylon is being adapted for a TV series, with acclaimed director Steven Bendelack signed on (Little Britain, League of Gentlemen, Mr. Bean), and the script being handled by award winning screenwriter Josh Medland.
Jarrette is working closely with both of them as consultant and Jody’s commitment to the project is such that he’s moving to Brighton in order to familiarise himself better with our City environment.
It’s slated for release at the end of 2014.
Peter is not treading water and already has several plans for future projects – his first fiction book, with the enigmatic and memorable title of Calypso Fannywagon, about “a human-esque bird who has a sci-fi radio that plays tunes from the future given to him by Queen Elizabeth II”, a possible film deal for his New York City stories in America, as well as continued work in multi-media.
Catch him while you can.
BRIGHTON BABYLON by PETER JARRETTE is released on Tuesday February 19th.
To reserve copies of Brighton Babylon call Brighton Waterstones (71-74 North St) on 0843 290 8181.

Brighton Babylon: a novel by Peter Jarrette
Rating: 0.0/5 (0 votes cast)
This weekend will see the official launch of the commended novel Brighton Babylon. The novel is written by Brighton author Peter Jarrette and is based on true stories of his experiences as a resident in the characteristic seaside city. Jarrette explains that “there have been so very many event highs and personal experiences that have solidified Brighton as one of the most enjoyable cities out of the many I’ve lived and worked in”.
In Brighton Babylon, PK Heights is a Grade II listed maisonette flat in one of the City’s up and coming Regency Squares that provides the elegant base for a series of interlocking true stories about the city’s people and their lives. Jarrette connects to his readers by creating situations they can relate to. “Readers can expect to recognise, wherever they may live, types of people they have around them now. The backdrop may be different, our zany city and our sense of living that makes Brighton different to anywhere on earth, but the lives and concerns are universal”.
Brighton Babylon is the first book in the UK to use WeJIT technology. The WeJIT app has been applied to the kindle version of the e-book which opens the book up to a much larger audience and allows readers to share their views and questions between other readers and the author. Jarrette accepted the offer to use this technology as “the app provides the chance to promote tourism to the city and draw attention to places discussed in the book: where to shop, to eat, to stay, what to read and what to experience – it’s amazing”.
Peter Jarrette is a UK based internationally published author, artist, and magazine columnist (Absolute Brighton Magazine & Caribbean BELLE). He is the co-author of four children’s books published by Little Simon/Simon & Schuster. He trained as an editorial illustrator at Parsons Art & Design College in Manhattan. Curious as to what influenced the idea of Brighton Babylon, Jarrette explains “I think there is a story in every city or town to be told and this rollicking place gave rise to these outrageous stories…I couldn’t resist getting them all down on paper as they unfolded around me”.
Internationally acclaimed UK direction Steven Bendelack has signed on to direct the UK television adaption of Brighton Babylon written by award winning screenwriter Jody Medland. Steven Bendelack has worked on a range of film and television series such as; Little Britain, League of Gentleman, Mr Bean and The Mighty Boosh. Jarrette states “The television adaptation will keep the authenticity of my voice and truth of the city”. The team will work together to pin point places, faces and the behavior of the city. Open castings will be held to ensure that the cast will consist of both A-list stars and real city people. Jarrette describes that “Brighton is a natural backdrop for some stunning story lines that unfold in the adaptation and it will definitely be the star”.
Brighton Babylon has received many enthusiastic endorsements from successful authors. Crime writer Peter James said, “his glorious evocation is so rich and vivid, you can taste and smell the city on every page.”
Brighton Babylon will be released as a paperback to booksellers nationwide from February 19th and online at a range of suppliers including Amazon, WHSmith, and Sainsbury’s entertainment. Brighton Babylon retails at £12.99 published by Dynasty Press Ltd. London.
The official launch and book signing will be held at Naked Eye Gallery in Hove on Sunday February 17th from 2PM to 5PM. Peter Jarrette is available for book signings and interviews.
To reserve copies of Brighton Babylon call Brighton Waterstones (71-74 North St) on 0843 290 8181.
