A summary of the artist LEX by Peter Jarrette

Born and educated between Zambia and the United States the artist Lez was raised in a privileged and glittering comet’s tail of high-octane international travel as she accompanied her jet set parents on many far reaching tours of some of the globe’s most energetic and inspirational cosmopolitan cites. By the age of 12, California’s well-heeled societies with their grand, gated, manicured lifestyles in exclusive hill and canyon communities eventually became her family’s home.
Now a modern day iconic fashion statement herself, the young Lez was then bewitched by and happily immersed in the energetic entertainment stimuli of an era that brought groundbreaking personalities and talents like Elvis and acts like the Beatles to the fore of the quickly changing and inter-related music, arts and fashion industries worldwide.
Of Elvis: “I adored him in King Creole and Jailhouse Rock!”
Pivotal to Lez’s rapier graphic and creative development was 60’s London. A city she declares she “fell in love with” on the way to her Californian life.
“This London was a city where an explosion of psychedelic colour, music and fashion rocketed-out in stark contrast to the beautiful and sparse landscape of my Zambian homeland. I knew then and there that I wanted to someday return to study art there.”
She studied Graphic Design at Kingston-upon-Thames and gained a BA Honours degree. Lez’s artistic disciplines are varied and widely applied. From her first days as a freelance designer in London to 10 years as a documentary film director in Cape Town to a return to the UK to establish her own successful marketing and product design business.
Lez’s current expression in mixed media and collage began in 2003 with her development and exhibitions of large-as-life Super Hero pieces all of which are now established in the collections and homes of dedicated art connoisseurs in several countries.
“I have always been attracted to the colourful comic books, bold advertising and the brightly lit films of sixties America. My fascination too with London, the Beatles, who changed the pop industry and icons who have emerged after the 60’s, continues.”
