2 husbands: woman to be sentenced next week

BIGAMIST Lynette Phillips has been ordered back to court at noon next Wednesday, to be sentenced for having two husbands at the same time.
Sentencing was stalled yesterday for a second time in two weeks as the court was told that the probation officer's report on the case was still outstanding.
Presiding in the San Fernando First Criminal Court, Justice Geoffrey Henderson said that interviews were still being conducted and he needed to have a "complete picture" before sentencing Phillip.
He said the report will be "helpful to the interest of justice".
In July, Phillips, 55, of Couva, pleaded guilty to bigamy after she was found to be married to George Wildman and Leroy Phillips at the same time.
She admitted to the State's case that she and Wildman got married even though her divorce was not yet finalised from Leroy Phillips.
State attorney Angelica Teelucksingh told the court that on June 19, 1977, Lynette Phillips married Leroy Phillips.
They were together married for 18-and-a-half years before their marriage broke up in October 1995.
Then on November 7, 1995, Lynette Phillips married Wildman at the Warden's Office at Couva.
However, in 2000 Leroy Phillips was summoned to the court for divorce proceedings, and on February 20, 2003, the divorce was finalised through a "decree absolute".
The court heard that Wildman, while married to the accused, contacted Leroy Phillips and in April 2006 the matter was reported to Constable Anand Bissoon.
Lynette Phillips was later charged.
Phillips who is out on $25,000 bail was yesterday represented by attorney Kern Edwards.
